The GKR initiative will advance scholarly communication by expanding the use of institutional repositories (IRs) by more U.S. colleges and universities, by increasing the amount of professionals with knowledge and skills in managing consortial IRs, and by multiplying the impact of USG scholarship. The institutions will benefit from lowering resource barriers to IR implementation consortially, thereby increasing visibility and distribution for their intellectual holdings worldwide. Georgia Tech Library has partnered with GALILEO and nine fellow USG institutions to implement a statewide IR program called the GALILEO Knowledge Repository (GKR) as well as create and implement a nationwide symposium and workshop for establishing statewide and consortial repositories.
