How to find books and articles on architectural topics: a basic tutorial

To find books, search the library catalog.

To find articles, search the Library's online indexes to journals and newspapers. Go to the Library databases page. Browse by SUBJECT: Architecture for links to databases which you can use to locate articles on your topic.

The following databases are highly recommended:

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals : offers a comprehensive listing of journal articles published worldwide on architecture and design, urban planning, and related fields. Coverage is from the 1930s (with selective coverage dating back to the 1860s) to the present. This database is an index only; it does not provide full-text articles.

Ebscohost : a collection of multidisciplinary databases that cover more than 3,800 publications (1,500 in full-text) , including academic journals in the humanities, the social sciences, and the general sciences. Also included are popular magazines and business publications.

ProQuest online information service: provides access to thousands of academic journals, general magazines, and newspapers in the humanities, social sciences, and business. Many publications are available in full-text .

LexisNexis Academic contains thousands of full-text publications, including newspapers. Search for articles from the Atlanta Journal and Constitution and other major papers here (text only; no images).
