Blueprint Collection
The Blueprint documents student life during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries on the Georgia Tech campus. This collection is available in both analog and digital forms.

A. French Textile Building Architectural Drawings

French Textile Building Architectural Drawings contain the original plans, details, mechanical plans, and equipment layouts for the 1898-1899 construction of the A. French Textile Building on the Georgia Tech campus.

French Textile Building Specifications contains detailed information regarding materials and labor to be used during the 1898-1899 construction of the A. French Textile Building on the Georgia Tech campus.

A. French Textile School Order Book
This collection consists of one order book containing pencilled notes made by Virginia Peed during her employment in Textile Engineering.

This collection documents the early history of the Georgia Tech honor code.

This collection contains images related to Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

William Anderson Alexander Papers
William Anderson Alexander graduated from Georgia Tech in 1912, in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he became a mathematics instructor and assistant football coach for Tech under John Heisman. In 1920, he assumed the title of head football coach until his retirement in 1944, but continued his duties as Athletic Director until his death in 1950. Alexander is remembered for his numerous wins as head football coach and taking his team to four major football bowl games. These papers include correspondences, office files, administration files, and newspaper clippings documenting his activities at Tech.

Alexander-Tharpe Fund Records
Established in 1949, the Alexander-Tharpe Fund honors Coach William A. Alexander and Mercer McCall “Mack” Tharpe, Tech football player and assistant coach who was killed in World War II. The fund provides scholarships to worthy Georgia Tech students. The organization was initially called the Alexander-Tharpe Scholarship Fund, with the name changed to the Alexander-Tharpe Fund, Inc. in 1981. The records include minutes of meetings of the Board of Trustees.

Alpha Tau Omega Photograph Collection
This collection includes photographs of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at Georgia Tech. These photographs document the social history of the fraternity during the mid-1940s

American Society of Mechanical Engineers - Atlanta Section records
This collection contains the office files of the Atlanta Section of ASME, including meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, bylaws and guidelines, officer and committee files, membership directories and news, and files on the history of the Section.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers - Atlanta Section Visual Materials

American Society of Mechanical Engineers -- Region XI History Notebook
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers -- Region XI History Notebook is a compilation dating from approximately 1980 of the history of Region XI and its constituent sections. Included in the notebook are summaries of activities of the Region's Vice Presidents (see the folder titled "Foreword"), Annual Reports of the Vice Presidents, and Regional Administrative Conference minutes.

ANAK Society Records
Founded on January 1, 1908, the ANAK Society is the oldest and most prestigious honorary society at Georgia Tech. These records include programs, invitations, and directories relating to the ANAK Society.

This collection contains papers on John D. Neff, "Monkey Mail," and selected publications of the Mathematical Association of America-Southeastern Section.

John D. Askew, Jr. Papers
This collection consists of various experiment reports completed by John D. Askew, Jr. for three courses in the Georgia School of Technology’s Electrical Engineering department, numbered EE 16, EE 17, and EE 18. The dates of the reports range from the fall of 1928 to the spring of 1930.

Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (E. Jo Baker) Photographs
These photographs have been separated from the professional papers of E. Jo Baker, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology. One campus scene and one photograph of a group of students at the Capitol Building in Georgia are the highlights of this collection.

These records consist of the professional papers of E. Jo Baker, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The records document Baker's activities as Associate Vice President, including her involvement with the founding of the President's Scholarship program. The collection also documents her work relating to recruitment, committee work, promotion and tenure, affirmative action, and professional associations.

Atlanta Chapter Report, American Red Cross
The Atlanta Chapter Report, American Red Cross is a single issue of the Atlanta Chapter's newsletter, dated March 1947. It contains an article concerning a flu epidemic on the Georgia Tech campus.

Atomic Energy for Industry Conference Records
The Atomic Energy for Industry Conference was held on October 28, 1954 on the Georgia Tech campus. This collection contains a conference brochure and the notes from an address given by Lt. Gen. Leslie R. Groves.

B

Harry L. Baker Photograph Collection
Harry Baker was a 1934 Georgia Tech graduate and the president of the Georgia Tech Research Institute from 1946 until his untimely death in 1973. The majority of this collection documents Baker's professional career while at Georgia Tech.

John T. Barret Photograph Collection
(see also: Digitized images available in SMARTech ) This collection contains images of room #3 in the dormitory known as Shack #1, 1922-1923 and the cake race of 1924.

Frank Beckum Papers
Frank Beckum taught architectural history and drafting in the College of Architecture from 1955 until 1990, serving as Assistant Dean from 1982 until 1990. His papers include course materials from his architectural history classes, primarily lectures and exams.

Board of Regents Records
The Board of Regents oversees the University System of Georgia, including the Georgia Institute of Technology. These records consist primarily of correspondence, financial reports, and minutes.

Board of Trustees minutes
This collection contains the minutes from the meetings of the Board of Trustees, from the first meeting in 1886 to the final meeting in January 1932. The minutes include reports by the President, committee reports, faculty promotions, and budgetary matters, as well as resolutions and motions regarding faculty and Presidential appointments and salaries.

Dr. Gilbert Hillhouse Boggs Memorial
This collection contains two copies of a memorial speech given on the death of Georgia Tech chemistry professor, Dr. Gilbert Hillhouse Boggs, in 1941.

Walter O. Boyd Papers
Fifty years after attending Georgia Tech, Walter Boyd wrote a manuscript about the various "firsts" that occurred during his years at Tech (1908-1913). This collection includes his manuscript document as well as correspondence concerning the document.

David Brin Papers
This collection consists of two rough drafts of Brin's 1990 novel, Earth, and a list of editions of Brin's work.

Alan Buchsbaum Papers
The bulk of this collection is made up of Buchsbaum's files on individual architectural and design projects, documenting the development of many of the projects that Buchsbaum and the Design Coalition worked on during his lifetime as well as those that were completed shortly after he died. General business files and a small amount of material related to Buchsbaum's memorial service are also included.

Alan Buchsbaum Visual Materials
The Alan Buchsbaum Visual Materials contain materials produced or used by Buchsbuam and his Design Coalition associates for design projects. The majority of materials in this collection are drawings for architectural projects undertaken by Alan Buchsbaum or his firm. Other materials relate to graphic design work or textile patterns designed by Buchsbaum.

Bulletin Photograph Collection
The Bulletin was a Tech publication, which began about 1901. This publication has had numerous forms, such as the General Catalog, the Student Handbook, and the Cooperative Bulletin. This collection contains images of campus buildings, laboratories, and equipment from various periods of the Institute's history.

Harold Alan Bunger Correspondence
This collection contains a single letter from Harold Alan Bunger, professor and chief of Georgia Tech's Chemical Engineering Department, to J. B. Crenshaw, Georgia Tech's commencement program chair. The correspondence deals with problems with the 1940 commencement exercises.

George P. Burdell Telegram
This collection contains one Western Union telegram for fictitious Georgia Tech student George P. Burdell. The telegram deals with Burdell's Navy recruitment in 1946.

Harold Bush-Brown Photograph Collection
During his thirty-four years at Georgia Tech, Harold Bush-Brown was a professor, administrator, and architect. He designed numerous buildings on the Tech campus, such as the Brown and Smith Dormitories, the original Ceramics Building, Brittain Dining Hall, and the School of Architecture building. In addition to his duties at Georgia Tech, Bush-Brown was also a District Officer for the Historic American Buildings Survey (United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service) in the 1930s. This collection mainly consists of photographs, notes, and printed materials relating to the United States Department of the Interior/Historic American Building Survey (HABS). However, there are also several Georgia Tech-related items in the collection. .

Hugh Harris Caldwell Papers
This collection consists of a single folder of correspondence to and from T. R. Branch and Hugh Harris Caldwell, the registrars of Georgia Tech.

Campus Master Planning Committee Records
These records document the work of the Campus Master Planning Committee from 1991 and 1997. Most of the materials were created by Georgia Tech and two consultant teams, Sasaki Associates and Wallace Roberts and Todd.

Campus Names Committee Records
In 1964, the Campus Names Committee was appointed by Georgia Tech President Edwin Harrison to recommend names for campus buildings and streets. The correspondence that comprises this collection details the discussions amongst the members of the group, as well as the community-at-large.

Career Services Annual Reports
Career Services, a division of Student Affairs, was previously known as the Placement Center. These records include annual reports summarizing career placement activities at Georgia Tech.

Louis A. Cavalli Mechanical Engineering Photograph Collection
This collection contains nine black and white photographs including an image of the wood shop and several early years of Mechanical Engineering graduates.

Centennial Celebration Records
Georgia Tech celebrated its centennial in 1985, with a capital campaign, an exhibition entitled "China: 7,000 Years of Discovery," publications, and a film. The records include a governor's proclamation and resolution, minutes, reports, newspaper clippings, agendas, printed material, films, and video documenting the planning and execution of the centennial celebration and accompanying capital campaign.

Center for Information on Women in Engineering Photographs
This collection consists of a single photograph of Bertha Lamme, the second woman in the United States to graduate college with an engineering degree.

These records contain administrative files, biographical information and materials relating to the database maintained by the Center for Information on Women in Engineering and to the Center's solicitation of papers of women engineers.

Hugh H. Chapman, Jr. Resume
The Hugh H. Chapman, Jr. resume and recommendations detail the education and career of Chapman, who apparently applied for a position with Georgia Tech.

Charles T. McNary Address
The first annual Southeastern Industrial Vision Congress was held on the Georgia Tech campus from November 14-16, 1948. Charles T. McNary gave an address at the congress, entitled, "What You Can Expect from a Good Vision Program."

Chi Epsilon Photograph
This collection contains one black and white photograph of the dedication of the Chi Epsilon key monument on the Georgia Tech campus in September 1945.

Chipman-Union Mill, Inc. Photograph Collection
Chipman-Union Mill was formed by the merger of Charles Chipman's Sons Company, Inc. and Union Manufacturing Company. These photographs document the history of the mill.

G. Wayne Clough Presidential Inauguration Committee Records
This collection contains papers, brochures, pamphlets, and invitations relating to the Presidential Inauguration Committee for G. Wayne Clough. Records of minutes are also included.

G. Wayne Clough Speeches Collection
(see also: SMARTech - President's Speeches and Presentations ) This collection includes speeches, lectures, and presentations given by G. Wayne Clough, during his tenure as the tenth President of the Georgia Institute of Technology (1994-2008). The collection exists only in its original digital form.

Joseph F. and Vary T. Coates Papers
The manuscript materials in this collection focus mainly on the activities of Joseph Coates and Vary Coates in the field of technology assessment. The papers relate to technology assessment in the United States, especially the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, which functioned from 1972 to 1995. Some documentation of international technology assessment and the Institute for Technology Assessment (1996-1998) is also included.

College of Architecture Records
This collection is made up of four series that document the day-to-day operations of the College of Architecture as well as the professional work of the Bush-Brown, Gailey, and Heffernan architectural firm, particularly the Tech buildings designed by the firm.

Commencement and Baccalaureate Collection
This collection consists of selected programs, addresses, invitations, instructions, and printed material produced for the commencement and/or baccalaureate ceremonies at Georgia Tech.

This collection contains reports and records from the Committee on Education Objectives and Methods.

John Stinson Cook Papers
John Stinson Cook graduated from Georgia Tech in 1937 with a B.S. in General Science. This collection is comprised of materials he obtained during his graduation ceremonies and from his relative, John Carr Cook.

John Saylor Coon Building Specifications
John Saylor Coon was the first Mechanical Engineering professor at Georgia Tech. This collection consists of building specifications he wrote and a newspaper article.

This collection contains incoming and outgoing correspondence to and from John Saylor Coon, as well as a ledger that Coon kept between about 1916 and 1919.

Cotton Textile Production Slides

J. B. Crenshaw Papers
As head of the Department of Modern Languages, Dr. J. B. Crenshaw retained the faculty correspondence, departmental annual reports, and drafts of academic papers that are contained in this collection.

Dorothy M. Crosland Papers
Dorothy Murray Crosland served as librarian of Georgia Tech from 1927 until 1953, when she assumed the title of director of libraries, the position she held until her retirement in 1971. Her principal achievements during her long tenure were the construction of the Price Gilbert Memorial Library and Crosland Tower (previously Graduate Addition). She also played an instrumental role in the admission of women to Georgia Tech and in the development of a graduate program in information science. These papers include correspondence, memoranda, and subject files documenting her activities and influence at Georgia Tech.

This collection consists of photographs of the interior of the Georgia Tech library.

John P. Culver, Jr. Papers
John Culver served as Georgia Tech's Director of Campus Affairs and Assistant Vice President for Institute Relations and Development. This collection contains materials documenting the Public Relations Department/Development Office at Georgia Tech during the years that John Culver worked there (1971-1986).

This collection contains numerous photographs from Georgia Tech's Public Relations department. The majority of the photographs depict former United States President Jimmy Carter and Georgia Tech President Joseph Pettit.

Day Davis Scrapbook
This collection consists of scrapbook pages containing newspaper clippings from Georgia Tech's 1931-1932 football season.

Dean and Director of Libraries Photographs
This collection consists of photographs of students using library computers.

Dean and Director of Libraries Records
The records include correspondence, annual reports, and statistical data containing information relating to library staff and faculty, Georgia Tech colleges and schools, library associations and vendors, and other administrative matters concerning the operation of the Georgia Tech Library and Information Center.

Dean of Faculties Records
Records include minutes, legal records, personnel files, financial records, and correspondence. There is also considerable information on program development, construction, and funding, as well as correspondence and records from the Franklin Foundation Lecture Series.

Doctoral Candidate Requirement Records
Georgia Tech offered its first doctor of philosophy degree in 1950. These records discuss such concerns as residency requirements, presentation of thesis topics, and course requirements.

Bobby Dodd Collection
Robert Lee "Bobby" Dodd became Tech's head football coach in 1945, after the retirement of William Alexander. Dodd's successful record at Tech was 165-64-8 with nine wins in thirteen football bowl games. After his retirement from coaching, Dodd continued as Georgia Tech's Athletic Director, a position he held from 1950 through 1976. These papers include articles about Dodd and Georgia Tech football, as well as a pencil and ink drawing of Dodd.

Bobby Dodd Visual Materials Collection
This collection contains photographs illustrating both professional and personal events in Bobby Dodd's life. Photographs include images of Dodd as a child and young man, images from his time at Georgia Tech, as well as images from after his retirement.

DramaTech Theatre Records
These records include production files and administrative materials, including programs from plays and performances as well as membership rolls, meeting minutes, correspondence, and other materials documenting the history of DramaTech.

DramaTech Visual Materials Collection
This collection contains photographs of DramaTech productions. Photographs include images of set construction, rehearsals, cast and crew, and scenes from productions.

E

Early Presidents Collection
The early presidents of Georgia Tech were influential in shaping the character of the institution and determining its future. Materials contained within this collection include correspondence, press releases, school records, maps and architectural drawings from the presidencies of Lyman Hall, Kenneth G. Matheson, Marion L. Brittain, and Blake R. Van Leer.

Early Presidents Photograph Collection
This collection consists of numerous photographs of Georgia Tech President Blake Van Leer while in office (1944-1956), but there is also one photograph of William Alexander, Georgia Tech football coach from 1920 to 1944. Several photographs were found in an envelope marked Gasper-Ware Studio (876 West Peachtree Street, Atlanta).

Geoffrey Gunter Eichholz Papers
Dr. Geoffrey Gunter Eichholz was Regents Professor of Nuclear Engineering. These papers include materials related to classes he taught, research projects, and Georgia Tech committee activities.

Ray F. Ellis papers
The eight series in this collection contain materials relating mainly to Ray Ellis' time as a coach for the Georgia Tech football team during the late 1940s and early 1950s, although there is a small amount of material on Ellis' later life. Included are Ellis' football play books from his career at Tech; a lecture by Ray Graves; correspondence and other material relating to Bobby Dodd; Tech football programs from the late 1940s and 1950; and newspaper and magazine clippings on Tech, Tech football, and football and other sports.

This collection contains images related to Georgia Tech football coaches and teams.

Cherry L. Emerson Papers
Cherry L. Emerson, the son of Georgia Tech's first dean, Dr. William Henry Emerson, graduated from Georgia Tech in 1909 and embarked upon a successful engineering career which included over twenty-five years with Robert and Company. In 1945, he returned to Georgia Tech as Dean of the School of Engineering. In 1948, he was named vice-president; under his direction, the institution's physical plant nearly doubled in size. He left Georgia Tech in 1955 and died in 1959. His papers include correspondence, financial records, printed material, and reports, documenting the Southern Technical Institute, Georgia Tech Research Institute, and the Engineering Experiment Station.

Engineering Experiment Station Photograph Collection
This collection consists of black and white photographs (primarily 8 by 10 inches) that were used in The Research Engineer, a magazine produced by the Engineering Experiment Station from 1946 to 1964. The backs of the photographs contain notes, written in crayon and pencil, about how to prepare the pictures for publication.

Engineering Retention Project Records
The Engineering Retention Project was funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). These records include the third year activities annual report, dated October 4, 1994.

Engineering the New South Records
Published as part of the centennial celebration of the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1985, Engineering the New South is the first comprehensive history of Georgia Tech. These records document the planning, research, and writing of the seminal volume by six faculty members of the Department of History, Technology, and Society.

English Department Reports
The English Department was part of Georgia Tech's course study when the school opened its doors in 1888. Throughout the years, the English Department moved to different departments and colleges. In 1990, the department moved to Literature, Communication, and Culture. This collection contains numerous reports, such as annual reports and reports to faculty and staff.

James Walter Estes Papers
James Walter Estes was a graduate of Georgia Tech in 1904. This collection consists of correspondence and a travel itinerary for a group of Georgians on an industrial tour of northern cities.

J. Walter Estes, a member of the class of 1904, collected these photographs of his classmates.

Executive Round Table Records
The Executive Round Table provides an opportunity for distinguished leaders to meet and share creative ideas of substance. Its membership is chosen to provide a balance between outstanding students, interesting faculty, and dynamic representatives of industry. The notebooks, maintained by the presidents, document the Round Table's activities from 1989 to 1991.

F. S. Holliday Correspondence
This collection contains a single letter from F. S. Holliday to the Georgia Tech faculty. Holliday, an electrical engineering student, requested a change in his class schedule.

Facilities Department Drawings
This collection consists of architectural drawings and blueprints documenting the design and construction of numerous buildings on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

This collection consists of photographs and slides documenting the design, construction, and renovation of numerous buildings and other construction projects on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Facilities Department Records
This collection consists of paper records documenting the design and construction of numerous building projects on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Faculty Minutes
This collection contains the minutes from the faculty meetings at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1888-1965, including discussions, decisions, rulings, and reports that occurred during these meetings. The collection also includes minutes from a variety of faculty committees.

Harold A. Faisst Papers
Harold A. “Dutch” Faisst was an outstanding Georgia Tech athlete, who played on the 1929 Rose Bowl football team. A member of the Class of 1930, he worked for the Aluminum Company of America after graduation. The scrapbook includes newspaper clippings, 1929 Rose Bowl memorabilia, souvenirs, and photographs. Some loose correspondence and photographs are also included.

Ferst Center for the Arts Records (Programs)
The Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech hosts an array of world-class cultural performances, and each performance is accompanied by a descriptive program. This collection consists of selected programs from performances at the Ferst Center.

Floyd Field Papers
This collection contains correspondence and a report from Floyd Field, former Georgia Tech Dean of Students and Chair of the Mathematics Department.

William E. Fincher Papers
William E. Fincher was a Georgia Tech football player and alumnus. His papers include three Southern Football Officials Association Rule Books.

Bud Foote Papers
The Bud Foote Papers consist of general office files, correspondence, newsletters, and audio-visual materials relating to Foote's extensive research in science fiction during his career as a faculty member at the Georgia Institute of Technology. A large number of Foote's published and unpublished papers and other writings on science fiction are also included in this collection.

Bud Foote Photographs
The Bud Foote photographs appear to have been taken during lectures, book signings or conferences relating to science fiction. The photographs frequently include Bud Foote and his colleagues with authors and scholars of science fiction.

Joseph Ford Papers
(see also: Joseph Ford Papers Digital Collection ) Dr. Joseph Ford was one of the pioneers in the field of chaotic dynamics in the 1960's and spent most of his 34 year career at the Georgia Tech School of Physics furthering this discipline. He dedicated his time between research, in which he was supported largely by the National Science Foundation, and education, either through conferences or in the classroom. This collection includes correspondence, prints of academic papers, course materials and visuals documenting his works and influence in both the Georgia Tech campus and the scientific global community.

Y. Frank Freeman Papers
Y. Frank (Young Frank) Freeman (1890-1969) graduated from Georgia Tech in 1910 and quickly became involved in the film industry, eventually becoming an executive at Paramount Pictures. He also was active in numerous organizations and institutions in the fields of banking, higher education, and athletics. His papers include correspondence, financial records, legal records, and certificates, primarily documenting his career with Paramount (1933-1967) as well as his activities in the hotel and banking industries.

Y. Frank Freeman Photograph Collection
The Y. Frank Freeman Photograph Collection contains photographs documenting Freeman’s life, particularly as it related to his career as an executive with Paramount Pictures. The collection is full of photographs of entertainers, movie stars, movie executives, and world political figures. There is also a series of personal images, including images related to his childhood, Georgia Tech, and baseball.

Fulton Bag and Cotton Mills Architectural Drawings
(see also: Fulton Bag and Cotton Mills Digital Collection ) Founded in Atlanta during the late 1860s, the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mills operated under the management of Jacob Elsas and his descendants for more than a century. The architectural drawings document the design and construction of most of the major buildings of the Atlanta site of Fulton Bag and Cotton Mills, as well as its machinery and equipment. The collection also contains drawings of the housing in the Atlanta mill village, as well as some drawings of other Fulton Bag sites, including Dallas and New Orleans.

(see also: Fulton Bag and Cotton Mills Digital Collection ) Founded in Atlanta during the late 1860s, the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mills operated under the management of Jacob Elsas and his descendants for more than a century. The processed portion of this collection, which is divided into three series, documents the business activities and concerns of management and workers in the Atlanta mill during the early twentieth century. Materials relating specifically to the 1914-1915 strike in Atlanta include the correspondence of Oscar Elsas, transcripts of testimonies given before the U.S. Commission on Industrial Relations, and a group of operative reports. Correspondence and operative reports also provide some documentation of union activities and working conditions at other Fulton Bag mills, particularly those in St. Louis, Brooklyn, Dallas, and New Orleans.

This collection includes brochures, advertisement clippings, and a poster focusing on Georgia Tech's recruiting attempts in its early years.

The GTRI Visual Materials Collection contains images produced or collected by GTRI from ca. 1934-1997. The images document the research, activities, and history of the organization. George C. Griffin Collection on D. M. (David M.) Smith
Correspondence concerning the retirement of D. M. (David M.) Smith, Professor of Mathematics at Georgia Tech from 1913 to 1954. Smith succeeded Floyd Field as head of the Department of Mathematics in 1936 and served in that capacity until 1951. The contents of this collection were removed from a scrapbook containing tributes to Smith compiled by George C. Griffin.

George C. Griffin Papers
This collection contains George Griffin's personal and business records, correspondence, files on Georgia Tech sports, scrapbooks, and certificates and awards dating mainly from the period following George Griffin's retirement in 1964. The papers reflect Griffin's continued deep involvement during his retirement in a variety of Tech-related activities, including Georgia Tech sports, his fraternity (Pi Kappa Phi), the Alumni Association, and the Class of 1922. Series 5, Writings, contains materials for his book, Griffin: You Are a Great Disappointment to Me. A military datebook (Series 2, Subseries 3), a class schedule (Series 3), and his football and track letter certificates (Series 7) date from his student and wartime days. Many of the business records (Series 3) and some of the track and cross country files (Series 4, Subseries 1) come from the period before Griffin's retirement.

GTRI Press Releases
Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), formerly known as the Engineering Experiment Station (EES), was created by the Georgia Legislature in 1919. The institute focuses on technical research for Georgia Tech. This collection contains three press releases dealing with GTRI research from 1947.

Daniel Guggenheim School of Aeronautics
During the 1938-1939 academic year, a proposal was made to establish a preliminary flight training program at Georgia Tech's Daniel Guggenheim School of Aeronautics, which was sponsored by the federal government. These records consist of several letters and memoranda dealing with the flight training program.

This collection consists of the outgoing correspondence of Lyman Hall, President of the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1896-1905, from the first eight years of his presidency.

C. Louis Hohenstein earned his bachelors (1952) and masters (1956) degrees in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech. This collection contains the page proofs, illustrations, amd copy edited manuscript of his book,

Isaac S. Hopkins Papers
Dr. Isaac S. Hopkins served as Georgia Tech's first president from its founding in 1888 until his resignation in 1896. Hopkins gave the alumni address at Emory College in 1883 advocating industrial education at Emory.

Joseph H. Howey Papers
Joseph Herman Howey (1901-) served as chair of the School of Physics. In 1976, the Physics Building was named in his honor. His papers include a manuscript notebook, entitled "Vector Analysis" and inscribed "J. H. Howey, Yale University, 1927."

The pictorial history, Images and Memories: Georgia Tech, 1885-1985,was one of several projects celebrating Georgia Tech's centennial in 1985. This collection contains copy prints of many of the photographs that appeared in the book.

Institute Communications and Public Affairs Records
The Georgia Institute of Technology's Office of Institute Communications and Public Affairs (ICPA) was previously known as the news bureau and the public relations office. Among many other responsibilities, ICPA produces annual reports and tracks publicity Georgia Tech receives in various publications. These records include annual reports and newsclippings.

Institutional Self-Study Steering Committee Records
The Institutional Self-Study Steering Committee coordinated the campus-wide self-studies that were conducted within individual departments and schools. These records include minutes, reports, and correspondence for three distinct self-studies: 1961-1963, 1972-1973, and 1983-1984.

International Student and Scholar Services Records
The Office of International Student and Scholar Services was formed to serve the international student population at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This collection includes documents from the advisors regarding enrollment of international students, academic progress, and financial statements of the student loan fund for international students.

Ivan Allen College Records

Ella Cliff Kiser Scrapbook
Ella Cliff Kiser, a young woman who lived on Spring Street and attended Georgia Tech's baseball and football games, kept a scrapbook documenting those teams from 1910 through 1912.

Arthur T. Kittle Papers
Dr. Arthur T. Kittle worked in the Georgia Tech Library from 1961-1983, and served on many campus-wide committees during this time period. His papers include memoranda, meeting minutes, articles, and cataloging manuals.

Edwin P. Kohler Slide Collection
The Edwin P. Kohler Slide Collection contains color slides of 1964 Georgia Tech Homecoming activities and the Tech campus in the mid-1960s.

Frank A. Kopf football game charts
The materials in this collection consist of football game charts created by sports writer Frank A. Kopf for The Atlanta Journal. Each chart is for a separate Georgia Tech game, and details every play made during that game. The charts range in date from 1927 to 1934.

Dr. Melvin Kranzberg Papers

L. W. "Chip" Robert, Jr. Alumni/Faculty House Dedication Records
In 1979, the Young Men's Christian Association building on North Avenue was renovated for use as an Alumni/Faculty House. Funded by the Robert Foundation, the building was dedicated as the L. W. "Chip" Robert, Jr. Alumni/Faculty House on November 17, 1979. These records include correspondence, programs, and other materials documenting the planning of the dedication.

Ed Lafitte Photograph Collection
Ed Lafitte was a member of the Georgia Tech baseball team in 1906-1907. This collection consists of one photograph of Lafitte in his Georgia Tech baseball uniform.

Georgia Tech Ledgers Collection
This collection consists of about 480 ledgers and a few ledger sheets containing accounts payable and receivable records, student rolls (including records of payment, attendance, and offenses, as well as some grades), time sheets, dormitory records, budgets, and some correspondence. The ledgers primarily document student and financial records at Georgia Tech, but they also provide particularly rich documentation of the day-to-day operation of the first fifty years of the school's existence (1885-1935). The ledgers from the earliest years of this time period (1887-1920) represent some of the earliest extant manuscripts produced by Georgia Tech. The later volumes, particularly those dating from after ca. 1960, contain mainly budgetary and financial information.

Librarian's Reports
A dedicated room for Georgia Tech's library was first established in 1899, and the first librarian, Madge Flynn, was hired in 1901. From these humble beginnings, the library grew steadily over the years. These reports include monthly summaries of finances and activities to the president and library committee from librarians Madge Flynn and her successor, Laura Hammond.

Library Book Shower Records
The Library Book Shower was held on November 22, 1907 to raise funds and solicit book donations for the new Carnegie Library. The records include publicity, calling cards, invitation, and correspondence from invited guests.

Charles E. Littlejohn Papers
A participant in the Navy V-12 program, Charles E. Littlejohn graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1944 with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering. His papers primarily include correspondence documenting his time at Georgia Tech.

James Herty Lucas Papers
The James Herty Lucas papers include newspaper clippings relating to Georgia Tech, a Tech dance invitation, a pamphlet on the engineer William States Lee, and three undated typewritten histories of civil, structural, and highway engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Louis B. Magid promoted the silk industry in Tallulah Falls, Georgia, purchasing land and making plans for farms and factories. His other business ventures in the area proved more lucrative than the silkworm industry and he abandoned silk by 1908. The papers include ledgers, scrapbooks, photographs, pamphlets, reprints and other materials relating to the silkworm industry.

Louis Borris Magid Visual Materials Collection
This collection contains visual materials related to sericulture. Although most of the images are general images of silkworm production, machinery, and people associated with sericulture worldwide, there are some images directly related to the Sericulture and Manufacturing Company in Tallulah Falls, Georgia.

This collection is made up of eleven series, which document Richard Meyer's professional activities during his thirty-eight years as a library administrator in academic libraries. Series 7, the largest series, contains files on research completed for Meyer's publications and presentations. Also included are materials on consulting, advisory boards, accreditation reviews, and conferences and workshops, as well as some documentation of his graduate work in Library Science and Economics, and a small amount of material on each of his professional positions.

Frank H. Neely Papers
Frank H. Neely, business and civic leader in Atlanta, graduated from Georgia Tech in 1904. His ties to Tech remained strong throughout his life, and his philanthropy is visible throughout campus. These papers include scrapbooks, correspondence, and printed materials primarily documenting his receipt of the Gantt Medal (1952) and Taylor Key (1958), and the Neely medal collection which was housed in the Rae and Frank Neely Room in the Library and Information Center.

Robert D. Neill Photograph Collection
Robert Deaver Neill graduated from Georgia Tech in 1943 with a degree in either Industrial Management or Electrical Engineering. While a student at Georgia Tech, he was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity and Navy R.O.T.C. This collection contains silver gelatin prints, which were taken and developed by Robert Neill or photographer John T. Moore of Seneca, South Carolina.

Frances Newman served as Georgia Tech's librarian from 1924 to 1926. Her papers are mostly comprised of correspondence and newspaper clippings dealing with her untimely death.

Olympic Aquatic Center Architectural Drawings
The Olympic Aquatic Center architectural drawings include overall plans, detailed section drawings, elevations, and schedules for the electrical, plumbing, and materials of this building.

Olympic Village Photograph Collection
The campus of Georgia Tech served as the Olympic Village for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta. For Tech, the Olympic Village represented the single biggest construction project in the school's history. In addition to the construction of seven new dormitories, such as Sixth Street Apartments and Hemphill Avenue Apartments, Tech also acquired an aquatic center. Although the majority of the photographs are not dated, they all originated around the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games.

Olympic Village Planning Records
Glenn Norman served as liaison between the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) and Georgia Tech, holding the position of Olympic Village Coordinator from 1991 to 1992. He left Georgia Tech to work for ACOG after the reorganization of Tech’s Olympic administration. The Olympic Village Planning Records include correspondence, published documents, reports, drawings, presentation materials, and cruiseline brochures.

Olympic/Paralympic Photograph Collection
The Georgia Tech Olympic/Paralympic Planning Office was directly responsible for planning Georgia Tech's participation in the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. Georgia Tech served as the Olympic Village and was the venue for boxing and aquatic competitions. This collection consists of numerous photographs documenting damage to the Georgia Tech campus and buildings that occurred during the Olympic and Paralympic games. All photographs were taken from July 23-29, 1996. Negatives are contained in the second box of the collection.

Olympic/Paralympic Planning Office Records
The Georgia Tech Olympic/Paralympic Planning Office was directly responsible for planning Georgia Tech’s participation in the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. Georgia Tech served as the Olympic Village and was the venue for boxing and aquatic competitions. The records include details of the project management, correspondence with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) and paralympic agencies, contracts for use of facilities, details of dormitory and fraternity house construction and renovation, transportation, and provision for Institute operations during the Olympic period.

Omicron Delta Kappa Oral History Records
As part of an ongoing oral history project, the Georgia Tech chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa has recorded interviews with various campus leaders. This collection contains transcripts and cassette tapes of some of these interviews.

Ray A. Young Papers
Dr. Ray A. Young, Professor Emeritus of Physics, earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Georgia Tech (1950 and 1951) and his Ph.D. from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1959. In addition to teaching in the School of Physics, Dr. Young headed several branches of Georgia Tech’s Engineering Experiment Station (EES). His papers include correspondence relating to his activities as editor of the Journal of Applied Crystallography and his career at Georgia Tech. The Georgia Tech materials reveal his research and administrative contributions to the School of Physics and EES.

The drawings in this collection are related to Reeves' professional projects as an electrical engineer from the 1960s to the early 1980s. The drawings are, for the most part, electrical plans for private residences, schools, college buildings, and other public buildings in the state of Georgia.

This volume is a signature register of Georgia Tech students. Originally a record of honor pledges, each entry in the volume includes the student's signature, post office, birth place and date, class entered, date of entrance, parent or guardian, time and manner of leaving (withdrawal or graduation date), and remarks.

This collection contains 20 photographs of friends and classmates during Reid's school years at Georgia Tech. McPherson Company, a studio photographer in Atlanta, took the majority of the photographs.

Ernest Scheller, Jr., was an alumnus of Georgia Tech, receiving a degree in Industrial Management in1952. Additionally, he was an active member of campus fraternities and many campus service and cultural organizations.

School of Aerospace Engineering records
This collection consists of administrative files relating to the annual inspections of the School of Aerospace Engineering by the Engineers' Council for Professional Development (ECPD) and the Institutional Self-Study of the 1960s at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The collection also includes articles and research by the faculty in aerospace engineering, dating mainly from the late 1930s and 1940s.

School of Chemistry and Biochemistry Records
The School of Chemistry and Biochemistry Records include Annual Reports of the director of the Department (later School) of Chemistry, correspondence, two Annual Reports of the Dean of Graduate Courses, and a few departmental planning documents and reports. The 1935-1936 Annual Report explains the reorganization of the department into Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Divisions.

School of Mathematics Report
On December 31, 1933, a meeting took place between Charles M. Snelling, chancellor of the University System, and college department heads from Georgia. During this meeting, the group discussed a possible statewide course coordination. This collection contains a report from Georgia Tech's mathematics department to Chancellor Snelling.

School of Physics Photograph Collection
The Physics Department was one of the eight original departments created, when Georgia Tech opened in 1888. This collection contains photographs of faculty members from the Physics Department.

School of Physics Records
The Physics Department was one of the original eight departments created when Georgia Tech opened in 1888. The first chair of the department was Isaac S. Hopkins, who also became Georgia Tech's first president. This collection contains student records (1919-1920), administrative correspondence of J.B. Edwards (1932-36), and personnel files of the Physics Department during the 1940s.

School of Textile Engineering Notebook
This collection is made up of papers taken from the notebook of Albin F. Turbak, Director of the School of Textile Engineering beginning in 1982. The collection is made up of correspondence relating to admissions requests, budget proposals, quarter registration notifications, and honor awards.

Secretary of the Faculty notebook
This collection contains a single volume of outgoing correspondence, grades, class standings, examination schedules and other notes, kept by the Secretary of the Faculty, Thomas Pettus Branch, from 1898 to 1905.

Selected Archives at Georgia Tech and Emory (SAGE)
The Woodruff Library of Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology Library and Information Center presented this report to the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, Inc., which funded a project to build virtual library capabilities at both institutions.

This collection contains a single report, entitled "Report of Professor Daniel to Advisory Committee on Semester and Quarter Plan."

Seventy-fifth Anniversary Celebration Committee Records
Georgia Tech Seventy-fifth Anniversary Celebration Committee began planning for the celebration in 1961. Events included a lecture series and the publication of Dress Her in White and Gold, by Robert B. Wallace, Jr. Committee records include correspondence, financial records, newspaper clippings, and printed material documenting the planning. Also included are congratulatory messages and certificates from other institutions.

Sibley Manufacturing Company Records
This collection consists mainly of the financial records of the Sibley textile mill prior to its merger with the neighboring Enterprise mill in 1936. Included are ledgers, journals, cash books, dividend books and other financial ledgers. A small number of business records (Series 1) include loose balance sheets, invoices, and bills extracted from the ledgers, as well as a 1922 land indenture (mortgage) on land on the south side of the Augusta Canal.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society of North America, Georgia Institute of Technology Chapter records
The Georgia Tech Sigma Xi Club was founded in 1946 and installed as a chapter of the national Society of the Sigma Xi in 1953. This honor society for science and engineering supports research, programs, and activiites. The records include correspondence, constitutions and by-laws, meeting minutes, and printed materials pertaining to the founding of the club and the research committee's activities.

The Georgia Tech Sigma Xi Club was founded in 1946 and installed as a chapter of the national society of Sigma Xi in 1953. These photographs document club events during the early years of its existence at Georgia Tech.

James P. Smith Papers
Dr. James P. Smith was a faculty member of the Georgia Tech English Department. The bulk of the materials constituting this collection are of the scholarly research he conducted on Frances Newman, an author and a librarian at the Georgia Tech Carnegie Library in the 1920s. His goal was to write a biography on Newman and compile a collection of her criticisms, but Dr. Smith passed away suddenly in 1980 before he could accomplish this.

Sports Information Office Records
The Sports Information Office, under the direction of the Georgia Tech Athletic Association, issues press releases relating to Georgia Tech's sports events. These records are composed of press releases from the Sports Information Office, dating from 1985-1992.

H. L. Strickland Papers
H. L. Strickland graduated from Georgia Tech in 1902. This collection contains Strickland's report card from 27 June 1900.

Student Activities Committee Records
These records document the activities of the Student Activities Committee during the late 1980s. Charters, minutes, a constitution and bylaws, and other administrative files make up the collection.

Student Center Records
After twenty-five years of planning and fundraising, ground was broken for a Georgia Tech student center in 1967. The Fred B. Wenn Student Center opened in 1970. The Student Center Records include construction plans and documents, calendars, speeches and ephemera from the 25th anniversary, and governing board records, consisting of agendas, minutes, correspondence, financial information, constitution and by-laws.

Student Directory
This volume is a handwritten directory of Georgia Tech students. Each entry in the volume includes the student's last name, first and middle initials, class, city address, name and address of parent or guardian, and the county. A column labelled "Sec." includes notations, possibly by the Secretary of the Faculty or the Registrar, indicating the student's major and/or withdrawal date.

Student Government Association Records
This collection consists of administrative files of the Student Government Association. The records include materials such as budgetary matters, constitutions and by-laws, committee meeting minutes, and other organizational records.

Tamiami Trail (Fla.) Photograph Collection
The J. B. McCrary Company, owned by Georgia Tech graduate Joseph Boyd McCrary, worked on the Tamiami Trail in Florida, which opened the frontier area known as the Everglades to commerce and settlement. These photographs document the early years of its construction, which was completed in 1928.

Technique (student newspaper)
The Technique newspaper documents student life during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries on the Georgia Tech campus. This collection is available in both analog and digital forms.

Lowell S. Terrell Notebooks
Lowell S. Terrell graduated from Georgia Tech in 1915 with a B. S. in Electrical Engineering. The thirty-two lab notebooks that comprise this collection are from two of his classes.

R. J. Thiesen Papers
R. J. “Jack” Thiesen served as Executive Secretary of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association from 1922 to 1951. He also served as secretary of the Georgia Tech Foundation, retiring from that position in 1955. He died on October 5, 1963. These papers, consisting primarily of correspondence dating from the 1930s, document the significant function placement played on the activities of the Alumni Association during the Great Depression. The correspondence paints a vivid picture of the effects of employment problems encountered by tech graduates. There is also correspondence with alumnus L. W. “Chip” Robert, as well as a small amount of Thiesen’s personal correspondence.

Third United States Army Publication
Formed in 1918, the Third United States Army was commanded by General George Patton during World War II. This report details the Third Army's crossing of the Rhine River in Germany.

Michael E. Thomas Papers
In 1988, under the leadership of then-President John Patrick Crecine, a restructuring plan was undertaken to prepare for the future of Georgia Tech as it continued to develop as a dominant technical institution. Michael E. Thomas, then acting executive vice president, was deeply involved in the academic restructuring. These papers, including correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, and proposals, document the reorganization of Georgia Tech.

Thomas P. Thompson Papers
Thomas P. Thompson, an 1896 graduate of Georgia Tech, earned his master's degree from Cornell University in 1898. He spent most of his professional life in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as city manager from 1933 until 1938 and was named "First Citizen" in 1950. His papers include copies of "The Georgia Tech" and student labs and reports from Cornell University.

Sandra W. Thornton Papers
Sandra W. Thornton joined the faculty of Georgia Tech in 1962 as an instructor in political science, retiring as assistant professor in the School of Public Policy in 1997. These papers document her activities in formulating Georgia Tech policy in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Tournament of Roses Collection
This collection contains memorabilia from the Rose Bowl and Tournament of Roses parade in 1929.

Urban Renewal Projects Records
The Urban Renewal Projects Records document Georgia Tech Urban Renewal Project R-85 and Urban Renewal Project R-111, the combination of which substantially increased the size of Georgia Tech's campus. The records include correspondence, memoranda, inventory forms, ledgers, and project maps.

Vice President for Student Affairs Photograph Collection
The Vice President of Student Affairs Photograph Collection contains twenty color photographs removed from their correlating manuscript materials, UA325. These photographs include a snap shot of the Roger Wehrle family, the Student Services staff for 1994-1995, and photos of James Dull with the George C. Griffin statue. There is also a photo of the Griffin statue as the casualty of a prank, with a cigarette and puppy slippers.

Vice President for Student Affairs Records
The collection consists of administrative files and student government records from the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, including minutes of several student organizations, long-range and strategic planning files, materials on organizations in the Vice President’s purview, and biographical files on selected Vice Presidents.

WGST Radio Photographs
The photographs document the radio station primarily in the 1950s. The collection includes images of individuals, the studios and buildings, and radio equipment as well as photographs of some of the station's special events.

WGST Radio Records
The WGST records document the history of the station, from its founding to its eventual sale, spanning a total of 52 years. Administrative files in Series 1 document the daily operations, lawsuits, and sale of the radio station. The studio logs of Series 2 provide detailed lists of the station's programming, advertising, and public service announcements for the period from 1940 to 1970.

William A. Alexander Memorial Coliseum Campaign Records
The idea for the Alexander Memorial Coliseum as a living memorial to William A. Alexander, longtime football coach and athletic association director, was conceived shortly after his death in April 1950. These records document the fundraising activities of the volunteer corps that set out to raise $1.5 million in three months.

WSB Radio Broadcasting Script
On May 18, 1939, WSB Radio Station had a university-sponsored program about Georgia Tech's ceramic engineering department. This collection contains a single radio script from that WSB program.

Georgia Tech YMCA Collection
The papers in this collection document the early years of the Georgia Tech YMCA, the dedication of the building in 1912, and the social and religious activities at Tech that were sponsored by the YMCA, especially during the late 1930s to early 1950s. These records also provide some information on the organization's support and administration of international programs during the 1960s and early 1970s.
