Administrative History of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers -- Region XI
In 1960, the region then known as Region IV of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers had become too large a territory for the administration of the Executive Committee of the region. Two years later, in the spring of 1962, Region XI was founded, with the election of Thomas Jack Judge as Vice President of the region. The states included in the new Region were Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. The first Region XI Regional Administrative Conference/Committee Meeting was held from April 26 to 28, 1963 in Mobile, Alabama.
As of 2008, Region XI is considered part of District F, the Southeast district, which includes the original states from Region XI as well as North Carolina and Virginia.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers -- Region XI History Notebook is a compilation dating from approximately 1980 of the history of Region XI and its constituent sections. Included in the notebook are summaries of activities of the Region's Vice Presidents (see the folder titled "Foreword"), Annual Reports of the Vice Presidents, and Regional Administrative Conference minutes. Historical summaries of many of the constituent sections, including Birmingham (founded in 1915), Chattanooga (1922), Florida (1921), and Savannah (1923), also form a part of the notebook.
