Biographical/Historical Note

Clifford L. Hipps was born in about 1903 in Alabama and grew up in Paulding County, Georgia, where his father worked at a grocery store. He attended Georgia Tech briefly as a freshman during the 1922-1923 school year. After leaving Tech, Hipps apparently resided in the Atlanta area with his wife. He died in Fulton County, Georgia, on 12 September 1967 at the age of 64.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a letter written in about 1922 to parents from M. L. Brittain, President of Georgia Tech from 1922 to 1944. The letter concerns the Christmas break policy then in effect for students; this copy includes a note, apparently from Hipps' father to Hipps, reminding him of the policy. Also included in this small collection is a photo from a newspaper showing Hipps and his wife at the annual freshman Georgia-Georgia Tech football game. The photo dates from the mid to late 1940s.
