Abstract:This collection consists of copies of legislative acts and resolutions generated by the City of Atlanta, or by the Senate, House of Representatives, or General Assembly of the State of Georgia, relating to Georgia Tech. The most significant item is an original 1883 letter from Governor Henry D. McDaniel introducing the members of the Georgia House of Representatives committee in charge of exploring the establishment of a state school of technology. Also included, among other resolutions, are copies of the documents establishing a technical school in Atlanta, Georgia.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of copies of legislative acts and resolutions generated by the City of Atlanta, or by the Senate, House of Representatives, or General Assembly of the State of Georgia, relating to the Georgia Institute of Technology (before 1948, the Georgia School of Technology). The most significant item is an original 1883 letter from Governor Henry D. McDaniel introducing the members of the Georgia House of Representatives committee in charge of exploring the establishment of a state school of technology. Also included are a printed copy as well as a handwritten manuscript photocopy of the act establishing Georgia Tech (1884-1885); a copy of a resolution, apparently from the City of Atlanta, resolving that Tech be located in Atlanta (1886); General Assembly resolutions of appreciation to Tech for hosting members of the General Assembly at basketball and football games (1960s); a House of Representatives certificate of appreciation for Georgia Tech in their efforts to obtain a NASA grant (1964); and Senate resolutions of condolence on the deaths of J. Erskine Love, Jr. and Joseph Mayo Pettit (1987). A certificate of incorporation for the Georgia Institute of Chemists (1972) is also included in the collection.
