Biographical/Historical Note

David Lynn Whitt, from Donelson, Tennessee, was born on January 18, 1944. A student at the Georgia Institute of Technology from about 1962 to 1966, he graduated Cum Laude in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

During his time at Georgia Tech, Whitt was active in his fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa, acting as the Vice President during his senior year. Additionally, he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, a national honorary society, and Tau Beta Phi, an honorary society for engineering students. His other extracurricular activities included Chi Epsilon, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Interfraternity Council.

Whitt later earned his J.D. from the University of Memphis in 1972. He has held various jobs in the construction industry throughout his career. Most recently, he served as the President of The Challenge Group, Inc., a construction management firm in Weldon Spring, Missouri. Previously, Mr. Whitt worked as a construction manager for Kwame Building Group, Inc., and oversaw the expansion of the Lambert St. Louis International Airport. Additionally, he has served as the President of Landmark Contract Management, Inc., a construction management company. He has worked on several large-scale, multi-million dollar projects, as well as serving as a mediator, arbitrator and consultant in recent years.

Whitt married Carol Ann Hitchcock (1945-2007), and they had four children: Melanie, Charles, Michelle, and Laura. Mrs. Whitt passed away in 2007 at the age of 61.
