Biographical/Historical Note

The Office of Computing Services developed COGITATE (Communications Options for Georgia Institute of Technology's Advanced Technological Environment) in March of 1985. It was a package of software programs to simplify computer network access for the entire campus. Many versions were revised and released over the next four years.

The Office of Computing Services formed a part of Computing and Information Technology until about 1989, when the name of the office was changed to Information Technology, with F. L. Suddath serving as its first Vice President. By about the year 2000, the office had become known as the Office of Information Technology (OIT), which provides information technology leadership and support to the Georgia Tech community. In 2010, the Office was headed by John Mullin, Associate Vice President / Associate Vice Provost for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer.
