The purpose of this organization was to instruct members in the basic practices of responsible financial investing and to become acquainted with the growth and income theories of investing. It was in existence from 1984 to 2005. Materials present in this collection include minutes, membership rolls, an organizational history, and the rules and regulations of the club.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Georgia Tech Women's Investment Club (TWIC) began in 1984 when Sheila Flannery formed an investment club comprised of members of the Georgia Tech Faculty Women's Club, a group for women faculty members and administrators, and wives of men on the faculty or administration at Georgia Tech. The purpose of TWIC was to instruct members in the basic practices of responsible financial investing and to become acquainted with the growth and income theories of investing. This was to be accomplished by making monthly, long-term investments.

The club met on the first Thursday morning of every month. The governing officers consisted of Presiding Partner, Presiding Assistant, Financial Partner, Financial Assistant, Agent, Recording Secretary, and Recording Assistant. Terms lasted one year. Membership was initially limited to twenty individuals, but this number proved to be too unwieldy and membership was further restricted to fifteen.

The investment club eventually disbanded in January 2005. The Georgia Tech Women's Investment Group (TWIG), which began in 2000 when the original TWIC was unable to admit new members, remains in existence.
