Biographical/Historical Note

This collection, which primarily consists of pictures associated with the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, was found in a gift copy of an early edition of the Blue Print, Georgia Tech's yearbook. Richard Manly Harris, affectionately referred to as "Sport," was born in Hampton, Georgia in 1891 and received his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1912 and a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1913. According to the 1912 Blue Print, in addition to being a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Harris participated in class basketball and football teams and was a member of the Society of Electrical Engineers.

Scope and Content Note

This collection is primarily composed of pictures associated with Georgia Tech and the Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity. The pictures show the Sigma Phi Epsilon house in the early 20th century, pictures of Sigma Phi Epsilon's brothers sitting on their fraternity house's porch, and men, presumbly members of Sigma Phi Epsilon, dressed "for a day on the town" and for "1910." In addition to the pictures associated with Sigma Phi Epsilon, the collection includes a collage of photographs of Georgia Tech's early 20th-century campus and an envelope with a hand-written note identifying the images as "Tech student activities around 1910-1912."
