Citation Style Guides
Always check first with your instructor -- or with the publisher if you are submitting a work for publication -- to see which style they prefer.
There are many citation styles. Some are used specifically for certain subject areas or in certain publications. Three commonly used styles are: MLA (from Modern Language Association, for use mainly in the humanities), APA (from American Psychological Association, used mainly in the social sciences) and the Chicago manual (used mainly in history).
