Library Policy Statement, June 2009

The Board of Regents has recently issued new copyright guidelines governing the processing and access of materials placed on course reserve. When making a request for digitized material, either scanned copies or links to online databases, you must use the online request form.

Additionally, a password will now be provided for each ERes course page to insure that only enrolled students and the instructor for that course have access to the material. Passwords will be automatically generated when the course page is created in ERes. The password will be provided to you at the time we send notification that your reserve readings have been posted.  Please post the password on your course  page or syllabus. Passwords will be retroactively assigned to all permanent reserves already in the system beginning July 1, 2009. The passwords for those course pages will be distributed to you via e-mail as they are assigned.

The Georgia Tech Library Reserves Team will continue to provide guidance and assistance in the processing of reserve items from our subscription databases and the library collection, e.g., books and select scanned pages from books or journals. Please note, however, that should you choose to post materials to another site such as a course page or your own web site, you are responsible personally for complying with the Fair Use Checklist and for obtaining copyright permission from the publisher if necessary. In all instances, full compliance with applicable copyright laws is expected of all employees of Board of Regents institutions.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Georgia Tech Library Reserves Staff or 404-894-7600. For more detailed questions concerning copyright law, please contact Burns Newsome, University System of Georgia Office of Legal Affairs.
