What is an Art-o-mat?

Art-o-mat machines are repurposed and redesigned cigarette vending machines that dispense tiny artwork in place of cigarette boxes. Based out of North Carolina, Artist Clark Whittington conceptualized this idea in the late 90s and the initiative has grown from there. There are currently over 200 machines worldwide and approximately 400 artists contributing to the project. Each Art-o-mat machine is themed and unique. Georgia Tech selected a space and science themed machine appealing to the disciplines on a STEM campus. Each unique art piece sells for 5 dollars and tokens for the machine can be purchased at the information service desk on the ground floor of the Price Gilbert Library.
