Centennial Summer: Georgia Tech’s Olympic Legacy opening reception

Join the Georgia Tech Library and the Alumni Association Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Scholars Event Theater, located on the first floor of Price Gilbert, for our Centennial Summer: Georgia Tech’s Olympic Legacy exhibition opening reception. 

This event includes light refreshments and the opportunity to participate in a campus bus tour of the Olympic-era additions led by the Georgia Tech Student Ambassadors.

Centennial Summer: Georgia Tech’s Olympic Legacy exhibition will be open from Feb. 28 through mid-November from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day in the Library's Exhibit Gallery, located on the first floor of Price Gilbert. 

Thirty years ago, Atlanta welcomed the world for the Centennial Olympic Games, a 17-day event that transformed the city and Georgia Tech’s campus. The Games brought unprecedented urban renewal and infrastructure projects, transforming Atlanta into a global stage. At the heart of this transformation was Georgia Tech. Serving as the Olympic Village and hosting several venues, Georgia Tech renovated Alexander Memorial Coliseum and added seven new dorms, the North Avenue Apartments, the Campanile, and a new pool that became the Campus Recreation Center, redefining the student experience for generations to come.  

We invite the entire Georgia Tech community to relive these Olympic memories and explore their legacy at the opening of the Library’s newest exhibit, Centennial Summer: Georgia Tech’s Olympic Legacy, showcasing the lasting impact of the 1996 Games through photographs, artifacts, and stories.
