    Archives & Special Collections

    Collects, preserves, exhibits, and makes available for research institutional archives, manuscripts, personal papers, organizational records, visual materials, memorabilia, rare books, and architectural collections. These materials primarily document the history of Georgia Tech and the activities of its faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

    Archives Reading Room

    Located on the 1st floor of Crosland Tower, the Archives Reading Room is the public services access point for Archives & Special Collections. Archives staff can provide general information about holdings, assist researchers with using research tools, and make the Archives' holdings available in the reading room. To request collections or any other archival materials, please place a request via the online requesting system or contact an archivist. https://library.gatech.edu/archives

    Archives Reference Services

    Use the online contact form to contact an archivist with reference queries. Staff will allocate up to 60 minutes of research time for each request. Some photographs may be included. Expect at least a 72-hour turnaround. https://library.gatech.edu/contact-archives

    Georgia Tech Librarians and Archivists teach a variety of drop-in classes and programming throughout the year. These classes are open to both the Georgia Tech community and the general public on topics ranging from Research Skills, Patents, Data Visualization, Origami, Graphic Design, Video and Audio Editing and more. Classes are taught both on-line and in-person.

    Collaboration Rooms

    The Collaboration rooms are dedicated study/meeting rooms for academic/scholarly activities. Within the Library (Clough, Crosland, & Price Gilbert), we have two reservation options available for Collaboration rooms ... Instant reservation, and Request reservation. Instant reservation: Allows students to book available rooms within minutes. Request reservation: Allows students, staff, and faculty to book a room in advance. Most rooms are available to all GT students, faculty, or staff, while a few rooms are reserved for faculty only.

    Data Visualization Lab

    Data & Visualization is one focused library service supporting Georgia Tech campus research, instruction and learning activities. Under the service librarians and staff members provide research consultation, workshops, embedded instruction and other scholarly activities within and outside of the lab. The service also intends to provide 24/7 access to visualization software and hardware at our High Performance Computing cluster area for Georgia Tech users.

This includes, but is not limited to, library-created Canvas materials, tutorial videos (either hosted on Mediaspace/Kaltura or other platforms), surveys, quizzes and assessments, streaming media, and open educational resources (OER).

    The Georgia Tech Library hosts scholarly events and programs that are free and open to the Georgia Tech community and public. Programs include author talks, symposia, researchers in conversation, film viewings, etc. These programs are often hosted in the Scholars Event Network, and the programs are streamed, recorded, and archived.

    Both on and off-campus Georgia Tech faculty, which includes teaching, research, postdoctoral, and visiting scholars, are provided a BuzzCard-accessible beautiful, peaceful environment to work, read, and have quiet discussions with their colleagues. The space is especially important to post-doctoral researchers and faculty, employees at GTRI, and researchers at remote Georgia Tech locations.

    GIL Express

    A resource-sharing service offered at all libraries of the University System of Georgia (USG), GIL Express provides access to all eligible circulating material at USG Libraries. It is available to all eligible Georgia Tech students, faculty, and staff through remote requesting in the Georgia Tech catalog (Primo) as well as walk-up service at any of the other 25 institutions in the USG.

    Government Information - Consultation & Training

    The Georgia Tech Library is a member of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) of the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO). The vision of the FDLP is to provide government information when and where it is needed in order to create an informed citizenry and an improved quality of life. The Library selects all online material distributed by GPO and collects and retains documents relating to the Environmental Protection Agency, United States Patent and Trademark Office, and NASA as part of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries Center of Excellence.

    The High Performance Computing cluster located on the 3rd floor features 16 Dell Precision high performance computers with dual 27 inch monitors.

    Instruction Support

    Georgia Tech Librarians and Archivists teach more than 400 course-integrated workshops a year, touching nearly 11,000 students, faculty and staff. Librarians and Archivists can work with faculty to design learning activities for classes and lead tailored course specific workshops by request to support the curriculum. Librarians also offer custom workshops for departments or research groups. These workshops should be scheduled in advance and can be integrated into course syllabi or class projects. Classes can be hosted in your classroom, in library classrooms or online.

    Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

    Interlibrary Loan, or ILL, allows students, faculty and staff to request materials not owned by Georgia Tech from other institutions around the world. If items are not available from the Library, its electronic journal subscriptions, or the Emory Shared Collection, requests can be placed in ILLiad, the online interface you use to place your requests.

    Lost in the Stacks

    Georgia Tech librarians and archivists produce a weekly radio show, broadcasting on the Georgia Tech station, WREK Atlanta. Each episode of Lost in the Stacks examines some aspect of libraries, archives, or academia through interviews, discussion, and thematically connected musical selections. This format is designed to expose the public to library science, archival practice, and academic research in a lively, eccentric venue.

    The Multimedia Studio is an open computer lab providing access to Multimedia software from the Adobe Creative Suite to Final Cut Pro and Pro Tools. The lab is staffed by student experts and also provides services and support for large format printing.

    Patents & Trademarks

    As a Patent and Trademark Resource Center, the Library provides free patent and trademark-related training and research consultation to students, faculty and staff on campus, as well as inventors, entrepreneurs, artists and historians from the public around the state. Collaborating with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and stakeholders on and off campus, the Library creates various programs to meet community needs and provides coordination and scheduling of the virtual assistant program for inventors.

    The Scholars Event Network is an integrated system of spaces, services and software to co-design, market, convene and archive interdisciplinary scholarly events for the Georgia Tech research and teaching communities.     Science Fiction Lounge

    The Science Fiction Lounge includes the circulating items in the Georgia Tech Science Fiction Collection, one of the largest in the Southeast. Originally formed from the donated personal collection of School of Literature, Media and Communication professor Irving "Bud" Foote in 1998, it has grown since that time to include thousands of science fiction works and criticism for research and leisure reading.

    Teaching Studio

    Designed as a space to support teaching and pedagogy on campus. Librarians, alongside our campus partners can work with faculty to integrate library resources and educational technologies into courses and research. Faculty can receive support in the Teaching Studio to create digital learning objects, record presentations, create instructional videos, and design class activities. The studio includes a video recording space equipped with green screen, consultation areas, a prototyping station, and a specialized classroom lab.

    Textbook Affordability & OER

    Affordable learning and open educational resources are an important part of teaching at Georgia Tech. Previously, faculty placed print monographs and course packs on hold for students as part of the reserves system. In the digital age, however, the range of available Library services includes ebooks, journals, streaming media, and tutorials. As such, the Library seeks to support each option and works to reduce textbook costs by providing the best-quality materials for faculty and students.

    The Georgia Tech Library maintains the software students use to submit their theses, acting as a collaboration interface for Graduate Office staff, students, and advisors.     The wayfinding signage in the building is meant for directional (restrooms, vending, etc.), informational (little bands across the bottom to show what is happening across campus), and identification (services within the Library - which floor, etc.) of pathways and services within the Library and Clough. Additionally, the customer experience will be enhanced soon with interactive signage in Crosland.

    Wellness Room

    The GT Library Wellness Room is a private space meant to serve as a temporary escape from the rigors of campus life. Organized to comfortably accommodate a single person, the room is well-suited to serve a variety of self-care needs. Some common uses the room is suitable for include serving as a lactation room for nursing parents, acting as a reflective space for prayer and meditation, or a temporary respite for this with other health needs.
